About MASH

The Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills was chartered on the 27th October 2004 having been sponsored by the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central.

The Special Representative for the formation of the new club to service the communities of both Mont Albert and Surrey Hills was Jennifer Coburn who has a business in Surrey Hills with her husband Roger.  Both were charter members of the club.

The club began with 28 members with several having been Rotarians in other clubs previously and now living in the local community.  The Club’s first President was Phillip Pearson in 2004/05 and he was followed by Leonie Moran (2005/06), Ern Hermeler (2006/07), Michael Willis (2007/08),  Roger Coburn (2008/09) and Shia Smart (2009/10).

The club’s first project was a Winter Woollies Collection in the Surrey Hills community followed by  participating in a Community Groups Day for the Mont Albert Community,  and assisting at the Mont Albert Village Christmas Street Dinner.  Our club has become well known for interesting fundraising activities – particularly our Mince Pies at Christmas and Hot Cross Buns at Easter!

With both Mont Albert and Surrey Hills having so many beautiful leafy treed streets, it was natural that our logo would reflect this recognisable part of our locality – stunning autumn leaves.  Our suburb is well known for the beautiful boulevard – Mont Albert Road where the trees on either side meet to form a magical tunnel through which the cars proceed from Box Hill to Camberwell throughout our suburb.

The leaves coming together represent the three elements of our club making a difference in our community – through our community, through our vocation and internationally.  The autumn-toned colours of the leaves are very similar to the tree-lined streets of Surrey Hills and Mont Albert during the period between summer and winter.

The club has taken the leaf as its symbol and its name badges are in a leaf shape.

The Rotary Club of MASH is a dynamic and vibrant club with members from throughout the community.  As a club, it has taken a lead with active planning and the clubs Vision established in 2008/9 is currently guiding our projects and direction.Maple Leaf Logo Three
