Environmental & Conservation
This year we have created a new Committee to address Environmental Issues. This committee will look at projects within our community and overseas, which we can provide either financial support or volunteer our time. An example of the types of projects we might be involved in are; providing compost bins to the local primary schools/kindergartens in our area, looking at water sanitation to name a few.
Reducing your waste this Christmas
As we enter the celebration season with Christmas upon us, so much waste is generated. When you receive your Christmas cards, please think of MASH Rotary and keep the stamps.
They are used to raise funds for eradicating Polio from the world – Rotary’s Major Project.
And whilst not as prevalent as in the past, corks from wine and champagne celebrations. Yes, we collect these for the Motor Neurone Disease Association who sell them to raise funds for Wheelchairs.
And as you Spring Clean before Christmas, perhaps we can be of assistance with some other items – we collect the following:
> Optical Glasses which will be used for villagers in Remote islands in Fiji
> Wool which is knitted into blankets and toys by residents at Inala Retirement Village
> Books (not encyclopaedias, religious or text books) for Second Hand Book Sale.
We can help to make a Difference Through Recycling. All items can be delivered to Balloons! Parties! Hire! at 160 Union Road, Surrey Hills who are open Tuesdays to Saturdays. Call 0407 689 777 if you need further information.
